Precision Remaps UK — Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers about ECU remapping, gearbox tuning (DSG/ZF), diagnostics and mobile service across the Midlands & nationwide routes.
What is ECU remapping?
ECU remapping is a software optimisation of your vehicle’s engine control unit. It improves how the engine delivers power, torque, and efficiency by refining manufacturer safety margins.
Stage 1 typically requires no hardware changes.
Is ECU remapping safe?
Yes — when done correctly. We apply custom, vehicle-specific calibrations that stay within safe engine and gearbox tolerances. We do not use generic “one-file-fits-all” maps.
How long does a remap take?
Most vehicles take 60–90 minutes including diagnostics, file reading, calibration and final checks. Some ECUs take longer depending on access method and vehicle condition.
Is the service mobile?
Yes — we’re fully mobile. We can come to your home or workplace across our listed locations and also travel on nationwide pre-booked routes.
Which areas do you cover?
We cover the Midlands as a core area and also travel nationwide on planned routes. Check our locations page, or message us your postcode and we’ll confirm availability.
Do you diagnose first before tuning?
Yes. We scan for faults and check key live data before any tuning. If there’s an underlying issue (boost control, airflow, fuel pressure, DPF load or sensors),
tuning first becomes guesswork — and we don’t do guesswork.
My car is in limp mode — can you still help?
Often yes. Limp mode is a protection strategy triggered by a fault (boost control, airflow, fuel pressure, emissions systems or sensors).
We diagnose the cause first and then advise the best route before any calibration work is carried out.
Do you offer gearbox tuning (DSG / ZF / automatics)?
Yes, where supported. Gearbox tuning can improve shift strategy and torque handling, especially on higher-torque builds. We’ll advise if it’s worthwhile for your vehicle and goals.
Will a remap affect my insurance?
You should inform your insurer of any performance modification. Many insurers accept ECU remaps, and some charge little or no increase. It’s always best to declare it.
Will my vehicle pass an MOT after a remap?
A standard Stage 1 or eco remap does not affect MOT compliance.
For emissions system faults (DPF/EGR/SCR/AdBlue), we diagnose first and explain the implications clearly before any work.
Do you offer DPF, EGR, or AdBlue solutions?
Yes — diagnostics-led support for DPF, EGR and SCR/AdBlue systems where appropriate. We assess fault codes, live data and vehicle condition before advising.
